Our latest news update includes several articles and links regarding the Phoenix Symphony Musicians’ recent agreement to contribute $2 Million in salary cuts (amounting to 17% annually on average) over the next three years to ensure the future success of The Phoenix Symphony.
 
A great overview of the entire negotiation process and result is given here in an article by Orchestra Committee Chair Chuck Berginc from Senza Sordino, the newsletter of the International Conference of Symphony and Opera Musicians.
 
Additionally you can read a joint press release with the Phoenix Symphony recognizing the musicians’ contribution and view an image of the recent NLRB decision referred to in the Senza Sordino article.
 
Finally, Drew McManus’s orchestra business website Adaptistration has two articles that give an overview of increases in Music Director and CEO salaries in relation to musician salaries, the second of which uses figures from Phoenix as an example.
 
May 24, 2009: The Phoenix Symphony Musicians have announced they will contribute almost $2 Million in salary cuts through 2011. Read the full press release here.
 
May 1, 2009: The Arizona Community Foundation has launched a new pilot program to generate grassroots support for the Valley’s cultural institutions - including The Phoenix Symphony - through small web-based donations.
